Natural Juice and Pure Water for UK Schools Campaign
We are campaigning for schools and other venues such as park cafés and restaurants (who offer kids meals) to stock only the best quality juices and water for our children. Currently, many schools, cafes and even restaurants offering kids meals are providing drinks that contain aspartame (aka saccharin, sucralose and more names) a chemical based artificial sweetener that is both unhealthy and unnecessary for our kids (and adults) to consume.

Various studies have been done on this chemical for decades and the information is readily available, yet this is still being given to our children to consume, why so when there are already great tasting natural drinks as well as those that do use artificial sweeteners that are from a natural origin readily available?

The National Library of Medicine lists in its study Aspartame and its effects on health:

“Editor—Lean and Hankey's editorial on the effects of aspartame and health gives this artificial sweetener a clean bill of health.1 However, it seems they have ignored or dismissed a wealth of evidence, which shows that aspartame can provoke a wide range of symptoms including depression2 and headaches.3,4 Other studies (a total of 91) that attest to aspartame's potential for harm can be found in an online review of peer reviewed literature.5
This review is particularly worrying as it shows that, although 100% of industry funded (either whole or in part) studies conclude that aspartame is safe, 92% of independently funded studies have found that aspartame has the potential for adverse effects.”

This is just a small selection of studies that are out there, one can do their due diligence on this subject and review the mountain of evidence and peer reviewed studies that exist for themselves and we would advise you to do so, rather than taking our word for it.

Another suggestion we have in terms of supplying children with healthy juices that do not contain artificial sweeteners are a brand of juice called Ben Organic. Originating out of Turkey, these drinks are already present in many supermarkets including a large chain called TFC, of which there are many stores around London. These drinks are also very affordable which is partly why they have been suggested, as many people think that natural alternatives to the mainstream products are always much more expensive, the small bottles retail for 99p and again if a deal were to be struck with schools, park cafes and restaurants offering kids meals with a drink, we’re sure the manufacturer would supply these at highly discounted wholesale prices.

WATER:

On the subject of Water, the most important thing we as humans can consume, it is also now widely known due to modern research, that our water supply is not only contaminated with various leads, metals and other substances, but even the bottled water we buy in shops is also not as fresh as the manufactures would like to claim, the fact of the matter is this is not a subject that has been taken seriously and we would like to see solutions such as ZeroWater filters make their way into Schools across the country.
These filters have recently been featured on national television and have been shaking up the industry as the 5-stage filtration system gives you over 99% clean drinking water, compared to other brands that only offer 50% filtration at best. As we all know we have hard water here in the UK, as soon as you pour a glass of Water via one of these filters and taste it, you instantly feel the softness of the water, it tastes and feels pure like water should.

ZeroWater are doing wonders, as well as the normal filter jugs for home use, they can supply larger units to accommodate premises such as an office or a school, so we cannot see any reason why such products cannot be integrated into schools as well as promoted to parents.
In fact, part of this campaign is to not only raise awareness and make change in schools, but to also raise awareness to parents to empower them to also make this change in their own home.
