From ancient African & Indian cultures moving in Rhythm with the flow of energy, Rastafarians chanting with the Nyah Bingi drum representing the human heart beat to the Sufi Whirling meditation spin…the list goes on.
Fast forward to modern times and we have modern culture such as break dancing, a fast paced, highly technical, rich in culture form of dance that is also competitive in nature, a way for dancers to express their energy and style and leave people in awe in the process.
Music not only heals, but brings people together, breaks down barriers, assists in people’s mental health struggles, its long been known that the keys of the keyboard represent the various chakra points in our bodies, everything is sound! Nada Brahma, check that book out 😊
Dance is also healing, it can be moving meditation, depending on how its done, its also great for physical fitness, break dancing strengthens every muscle in your body, its part of original Hip-Hop culture too, one of the 5 elements in fact, and is also a great way of getting troubled youth off the streets and involved in something very positive.
One such dance school in the UK goes by the name of The Imperial Steps, the founder and teacher, Isaac “Vitamin” Baptiste, has been running his school for over 20 years and teaches children up to their teenage years. A highly motivated and positive individual, Vitamin has kept the culture alive and trained his students to represent the original art form and reach standards that find them competing in competitions and at shows around the country.
Classes are based in West London so if you’re local and want to get your kids involved in something super positive and rewarding, give them a call 😊
Here is some footage from their 20th Year Anniversary in September 2022.
